KATHUA, Dec 22: Former minister Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today appealed to the people to defeat politics of exploitation and falsehood during coming elections in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing series of public meetings in Billawar, Hiranagar and Kandi Constituencies during his three day visit, Manohar Lal said that BJP has all along played with the aspirations and sentiments of the people of J&K. He called for socio-political empowerment of weaker sections of the society, saying their active involvement in decision making will greatly help in their economic emancipation.
He said BJP Govt has failed to provide platform and opportunities to the weaker sections and ensure their active participation in the process of governance. He recalled how their govt worked tirelessly for upliftment of the poor people. This spirit is to be imbibed by the cadre in order to achieve the objective of establishing egalitarian society, he added.
Dr Manohar urged the cadre to work for strengthening amity and brotherhood which is the cherished philosophy of true democracy. He said all religions preach love, compassion and brotherhood and this message has to be followed in letter and spirit. He also expressed concern over the hike in prices of essential commodities, saying this has hit common man the most. The soaring prices have led to increase in the transportation charges of essential commodities, which has broken the backbone of the poor people.
He slammed the administration for pursuing anti-poor policies, stating that it has callously ignored the interests of poor population. “The headway made with regard to empowerment of weaker sections during their govt has been undone,” he regretted.
Sharma claimed that people of J&K demand restoration of statehood at the earliest, ‘darbar move’ practice, employment for youth, a legal guarantee of minimum support price for crops and slashing prices of essential commodities. He alleged that J&K has been “downgraded and downsized by bifurcating it into two Union Territories disrupting the social fabric, integrity and composite culture of the erstwhile state,” he stated.
He called for the restoration of full statehood in the larger interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir besides unity, integrity, peace, progress and communal harmony for the people, he said.
Manohar was accompanied by Brijeshwar Singh Indu BDC Chairman Baronti Block, Ch Mahmood, Pawan Gupta besides others.
