JAMMU, Sept 5: Jammu girl Deepali Jamwal, daughter of Brigadier RS Jamwal (Retd) was felicitated by Asian-African Chamber of Commerce and Industries in Delhi as being among the Most Admired Global Indian.
She started Live2Dance Seattle, a South Asian dance group in Seattle (USA) in 2016 with one goal to build community through the love of dance. Live2Dance grew from this goal to something much greater, and moved from an after-work hobby to the community’s home away from home. It became a favourite haunt and a happy place for the community.
Her love for the community and helpful nature helped many migrants to stabilise in their initial periods in USA before they could settle down to a full time job and daily routine. Many migrants who were under depression or even on anti-depression medicine recovered due to her caring nature and the home she provided away from home. Pandemic had its toll on her group too & she was forced to shut down her dance studio. But she did not give up and emerged even stronger and bigger. She built another home for the community even in the face of so much uncertainty.
Live2Dance has truly helped hundreds of people survive the pandemic: navigating all of life’s challenges from new jobs, to shifting to new places due to loss of jobs, to uncertainties of pandemic, to the passing away of family members. Live2Dance kept everyone moving forward- in and outside the studio. Today she has a community of over 1000 who are part of her Live2Dance group.
