Declare holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh birthday: NAUP

JAMMU, Sept 14: National President of National Awami United Party (NAUP) Sandeep Singh has demanded declaration of holiday on Maharaja Hari Singh birthday which falls on 23rd of September in both Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
He said due to the efforts of Maharaja Hari Singh, the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir acceded to India when he signed the instrument of accession on October 26, 1947.
While talking to media persons, he said that the sentiments of J&K people are associated with the Maharaja Hari Singh. “BJP leaders must clear their stand on declaration of holiday on his birthday because several birthdays were passed when BJP Government was in power in the Centre and in the erstwhile State of J&K “, he added.
He further said that many social, political and other organizations are protesting and demanding holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh, but BJP has failed to respect the sentiments of J&K and especially Jammu people.
“BJP totally ignored the great role of Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh”, he stated.
Singh appealed to the Prime Minister and Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to declare holiday on the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh.
Among others present were Rakesh Singh, Shikha Thakur, Pankaj Langoo and Jagdish Raj Sharma.
