Ji Chand Nagar, Jammu, Desh Bhagat Yaadgar Committee, Sikh Progressive Front, Virasat-e-Khalsa and Bhai Kanayia Jee Nishkam Seva Society was held under the presidium of Sukhbir Singh, president Management Committee, Gurudwara Baba Chanda Singh Ji, S Mohan Singh Bhagi president, Gurudwara Charan Kamal Asthan Guru Nanak Dev Ji Ser Manjila and Comrade Sukhdev Singh to discuss day to day problems being faced by the community.
While speaking on the occasion Sukhbir Singh demanded that the J&K Govt should declare State holiday and `dry day’ on the Martyrdom Day.
The participants said that Guru Sahib was the symbol of secularism and tolerance in real sense. Guru Tegh Bahadur, the 9th Sikh Guru undertook the supreme sacrifice for the protection of the human rights – the right of a person to freely practice his or her religion without interference. In the modern times we tend to take this freedom for granted – but in 1675, millions of people were denied this basic right. There was forced conversion of religion; thousands were killed for refusing to change their religion and Gurujee undertook the supreme sacrifice for the country.
The members demanded to declare the Gurudwara Guru Nanak Devji, Chand Nagar as historical place and put them on Tourist map, remove shops of Municipal Committee in Chand Nagar falling in the precincts of this Gurdwara, rename Kunjwani Chowk as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk, implementation of Ansari Commission report on 1989 anti Sikh riots in J&K and settlement of claims, settle the claims of 1947 refugees and appointment of Punjabi teachers in school and colleges.
