Declare holiday on birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh

JAMMU, Sept 11: A meeting was organised today regarding celebrations of 121st birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh falling on September 23 at Sainik Colony.
He was a great ruler of princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. He made primary education compulsory in the State, introduced laws prohibiting child marriage and opened places of worship to the low castes.
Many people from adjoining areas of Chowadhi, Channi himmat, Kunjwani and Greater Kailash attended the meeting.
In the meeting, the speakers said that September 23 should be declared as public holiday as a mark of respect to the great ruler. They also stated that Jammu Airport and Jammu University should be named after Maharaja Hari Singh in his honour. This day should be celebrated with full enthusiasm to pay tribute and remember our great ruler, they added.
