SRINAGAR, Nov 28: Terming them illegal, Jammu Kashmir Cooperative Societies (JKCS) today appealed Chief Minister (CM) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to declare the upcoming Srinagar elections of State Cooperative Bank Limited as “null and void”.
The JKCS president, Mohammad Maqbool said that the elections to the managing committee of the Jammu and Kashmir State Cooperative Bank Limited Srinagar are being conducted “fraudulently against the principal act of JKCS 1989 and the rules framed under SRO 236 of 2013 dated 25/4/2013.”
“The SR0 236 of 2013 is stayed by High Court in OWP number 1386/2013, 1411/2014 and 114/2015. There seem malafide intentions in conducting elections to Jammu and Kashmir State Cooperative Bank Limited. The registrar JKCS has been party in the OWP,” he said.
Maqbool said that the Registrar of the JKCS had on 19 November last month declared the elections of Anantnag Central Cooperative Society Bank as “null and void” and had stated that the elections of secondary tier cannot be held without top tier elections.
“It is astonishing that the same Registrar issued a notification vide number RCS/B&F/736-40 dated 31/10/2015 for conducting the elections of Cooperative Bank Srinagar before 3/12/2015. The date mentioned in notification was not the working day,” he said. Maqbool said that the SRO 236 is under Court stay and the notification is illegal till the case is settled.
Seeking the intervention of CM, he said: “We humbly request Chief Minister to intervene in the matter and restore the confidence of people and members of society in particular and declare these elections as null and void as they are illegal and unconstitutional.”
