JAMMU, Feb 9: Clearing the decks for setting up of two Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) in Kathua and Doda districts of Jammu region, the Revenue Department today transferred 50 kanals of land at village Chak Sajjan in Kathua district in favour of Health and Medical Education Department for setting up of Medical College there.
Health and Medical Education Minister Bali Bhagat told the Excelsior that the Revenue Department today issued an order transferring State land measuring 50 kanals at village Chak Sajjan in favour of the health and Medical Education Department for setting up the Medical College.
Apart from this, the Revenue Department today wrote to the Deputy Commissioner Kathua to initiate acquisition proceedings for 93 kanals and 19 marlas more land for the Medical College, which is either ‘Mehfooz Kahcharai’ or allotted to various individuals.
Apart from this, 160 kanals land has already been transferred to Health and Medical Education Department for setting up of Medical College at Doda. The Technical Evaluation Committee of the Government of India has approved the land. With this, decks have been cleared for laying foundation stones of two remaining Medical Colleges in Kathua and Doda. The foundation stone of Kathua and Doda Medical Colleges will also be laid shortly, Bhagat said.
