NAGROTA, Mar 1: Saying that decentralization of authority has been core of National Conference, Provincial President Devender Singh Rana on Saturday exhorted people to reassert themselves and become part of decision making process in the State.
“Creation of new administrative units together with empowerment of Panchayats reflect the urge of National Conference to make the people real rulers of Jammu and Kashmir, a dream nurtured and sustained by Sher-e-Kashmir”, Mr Rana said while addressing a huge rally at Nagrota, held to celebrate the creation of new tehsils and the community blocks in the constituency.
The Provincial President said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is carrying forward the mission of Baba-e-Quom, who pioneered decentralisation of powers over three decades ago, a time when such a measure was unpalatable here or elsewhere in the country. He said taking seat of administration to rural and remote areas is the real spirit of democracy that gives supremacy to the will of people.
“Achieving this objective would have been impossible but for the solid support extended by the people of Jammu and Kashmir to Omar Abdullah, who single-mindedly persued and ensured that the long pending demand of the remote areas is met at the earliest”, Mr Rana said.
Mr Rana said new administrative units will go a long way in empowering people and ensuring development. He said that rural development will get a new impetus with the carving out of new community blocks, as the fund flow will increase manifold.
Referring to the concerns of left-over areas, he said the new panel announced by the Chief Minister will take care of their requirements and submit recommendations to the Government for consideration in a time bound manner.
The Provincial President urged the people to show similar grit and determination in isolating power hungry politicians who come before them in different jargons with malicious agenda. “Some of them pretend to be super patriots and some just keep playing second fiddle to take a short cut to power”, he said, while warning those exploiting the sentiments of innocent people for their petty political gains.
Hitting out at BJP for its dubious agenda, Mr Rana alleged that the rank and file of the right wing party has been indulging in dirty politics by creating wedge between the people and dividing them in the name of religion.
Earlier, the Provincial President was taken out in a rally through Nagrota Bazar, which was tastefully decorated to mark to creation of a new Tehsil.
