JAMMU, May 27: The 56th death anniversary of first Prime Minister of India, Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru was observed by the Congress Party throughout the province while main function was held at PCC headquarters, Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu.

The simple function was organized by PCC and DCC Jammu Urban which was attended by former minister and vice president, Raman Bhalla, chief spokesperson of the party Ravinder Sharma, former minister and general secretary PCC , incharge District Congress Jammu Yogesh Sawhney, general secretary PCC, Manmohan Singh, senior leaders Surinder Singh Shingari, Neeraj Gupta, Kewel Yogi, functionaries of DCC Jammu – Dr R K Khajuria, Madan Malagar, Anand Gandotra, Pawan Singh, Ravi Mangotra and Kuldeep Shukla.
Paying floral tributes to Pt Nehru, Bhalla described him as the architect of modern India who laid the strong foundations of independent India. He was a great statesman and a visionary leader who took the reigns of the country at a difficult times but he steered country of all sorts of crisis and conflicts of post partition and made it to March on the path of peace, progress and prosperity and self reliance in multiple fields.
Bhalla said that the Nehru was amongst tallest leader of his times in the world who created a place for India in the community of nations and was leading figure of NAM. Pt Nehru is described as one of the great stalwarts of the freedom struggle after Mahatma Gandhi and underwent great physical and mental suffering during the freedom movement.
As the first Prime Minister of independent India, there were great responsibilities and challenges before Pt Nehru and it was his capable, dynamic and visionary leadership which laid the path of progress and all round development of the country.
Sawhney paid rich tributes to the great leader and described him as a visionary leader who was respected widely in the entire world. He led the nation to new heights as the first PM and will always be remembered for his contributions to the nation and in shaping the policies of a strong nation.
He lashed out at those forces who try to belittle his contributions and tarnish his image by distortion of history. He said the forces in power are jealousy of the contributions and achievements of his life and try to mislead the younger generations.
A similar function was held at Hiranagar in district Kathua today under the leadership of Ex-MLC, Subhash Gupta where party workers paid floral tributes to Pt Nehru. While throwing light on the philosophy and life of Pt Nehru, Gupta said that his life was full of devotion, dedication and truthfulness for the nation. “It was Nehru, who designed the modern India and laid the strong foundation stone for its future. Nehru was the architect of modern India,” he said.
