JAMMU, Sept 23: Advocating for firm dealing with Pakistan and separatist agents in Kashmir, former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has emphasized for declaring this neighbor as a rogue and review all the agreements because of their failure to keep up the commitments at the national and international levels. He also stressed on plugging the loopholes in the security matters and exemplary punishments to the black sheeps.
Prof. Gupta while interacting with the activists from Poonch and other areas bordering Pak held Kashmir, paid tributes to the martyrs of Uri episode and other places operating under heavy odds. He said that security forces in Kashmir are facing complex situation created by elements acting in various guises to suit their ends.
The activists from Poonch sought investigation of September 11, Fidayeen infiltration in most sensitive areas of the town to NIA like that of Uri for deep probing. The said that enemy plan of Poonch was frustrated but for timely information given to police and others by the vigilant civilians. It was a very serious matter for probing that how these heavily armed terrorists reached there.
Prof. Gupta observed that Pakistan had never honoured the international commitments and was flouting even the agreements like that of 1949, 1966 and also that of Shimla. Although India had shown broad mindedness in not only releasing over 92000 Pakistani army men and vacating large conquered areas of the Western Front.
Referring to the Indus Water Treaty of 1960, Prof. Gupta pointed out that the waters of three major rivers viz Chenab, Jhelum and Indus were reserved for Pakistan with the hope that Pak authorities would give up harping on Kashmir, as the Pak rulers had been staking claims on the water of these rivers. But it was unfortunate that Pakistan is ignoring all such facilities and continued ranting for Kashmir which is an integral part of India.
He said that time has come that all such agreements should be achieved including that of Indus Water Treaty, especially because of its being most disadvantageous to the interest of the people of Jammu & Kashmir, so much so, Pakistan has been raising uncalled for objections over the construction of Hydel Power Projects and even taking of some water for drinking purposes. He said if Pakistan did not honour other agreements, the Indus Water Treaty and all other such contracts must be given a second look.
Prof. Gupta said that peace and tranquillity cannot be achieved single handedly. Hence realistic view should be taken on various aspects to deal with a country which had come up on the notion hate India.
