Deadline for applying for OIC card extended

NEW DELHI, Dec 30:  The Government has extended the date of submission of application for registration as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder by the erstwhile (Person of Indian Origin) PIO cardholders till June 30, 2017.
Sources in the MEA told UNI today that the notification in this regard was issued by the Home Ministry.
This is for the second time that the deadline for conversion PIO to OCI has been extended. Earlier, the Government had decided to extend the last date for applying for conversion cards from June 30 to December 31.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced that the PIO and OCI cards will be merged and the Indian diaspora will be given maximum possible benefits.
It was felt that simultaneous existence of PIO and OCI cards lead to confusion among Indians residing abroad. (UNI)
