KATHUA, Sept 13: Realizing the role of Nutritional Guardian, District Development Commissioner, Dr Raghav Langer today visited the house of 2 years and 8 months old malnourished child at Dhanni Panchayat.
The DDC has adopted 2 malnourished children as their Nutritional Guardian. Under this initiative, the DDC will fulfil the nutritional requirements of these adopted children.
This initiative will give fillip to the existing nutrition programmes and seeks volunteer support from district level officers to act as nutritional care takers for malnourished children with impoverished family back ground.
The Nutritional Guardian will serve as a link between the beneficiary and the applicable nutrition scheme of the Government, Dr Langer informed, adding that these officers who act as “Nutritional Guardians” of malnourished children shall support the nutrition of the child concerned from their own personal resources to the possible extent.
It was further expected from the Nutritional Guardians/district level officers that they should visit the home of the malnourished child during their spare time at least once a fortnight, interact with the family and try to understand the cause of their malnourished status. Besides, they should also submit the monthly report to the District Development Commissioner regarding the improvement in the nutritional status and overall development of such child.
Later, DDC inspected the Anganwari Centre and PHC at Dhanni. He directed the concerned to provide the fixed quantity of food and nutrition supplies at Anganwari Centres besides timely health services and nutrition to pregnant women, nursing mothers and adolescent girls.
