JAMMU, Oct 16: District Development Commissioner, Jammu A K Sahu, had a detailed meeting of various sectors to review the progress of restoration of infrastructure damaged due to recent floods.
Various departments apprised the Deputy Commissioner about the progress achieved so far and barring a few, all restoration works have been completed in most of the sectors. Damaged portion of 4th Tawi bridge has temporarily been restored within 20 days and pantoon bridge has been constructed with the help of army at Tawi Island.
However, DDC asked PWD to take work of Balley bridge in place of pantoon bridge so that connectivity remains available till the new bridge is constructed. He said that transformers have been replaced and repaired whereas most challenging task of restoration of 33 KV line which has been completed by end of Navratras. Besides, water supply affected in the Jammu City was restored within week’s time and in rural areas water supply has now been restored in all 230 water supply schemes.
However, the major work of Flood & Control Department will continue as it require substantial funding as well as supply of key construction materials. SICOP has been asked to provide required material to various departments on fast track basis so that restoration work is not affected.
DDC also constituted inter disciplinary committees for verification of restoration of infrastructure headed by Additional District Development Commissioner, Jammu as per Standing Operating Procedure (SOP) of SDRF. These committees will include Superintendent Engineers, respective SDMs, Tehsildars and respective Executive Engineers which will take up extensive verification of various works undertaken by the departments and shall certify its genuineness and costing.
DDC also reviewed the progress achieved so far in distribution of ex-gratia under SDRF guidelines.
The SDMs and Tehsildars apprised that their assessment with respect to structures, cattles etc has been completed and payment has also been made. However, some payments are pending for want of account number as all the funds has to be transferred to bank account directly as per the Government directions, he added.
Lead Bank Officer was asked to mobilize the banks to open account of persons under “Jan Dhan Yojana” where beneficiary does not have a bank account.
The meeting was attended by ADDC, Jammu, Chief Planning Officer, Asstt. Commissioner (Revenue), SDMs, Supdt. Engineers of various department, Executive Engineers, Tehsildars and other officers.
