KATHUA, Nov 29: District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Rohit Khajuria dedicated the traditional pond which was renovated by the Government recently to people of Kathua here, today.
In this connection the pond cum garden and a motor pump with deep hand pump was also inaugurated to fill the pond with clean water.
Rohit Khajuria said that the pond was under the illegal possession of land encroachers and was freed from the encroachers with the help of Revenue Department in the month of May this year. The pond and a park was renovated for public utility with the help of Forest Department, Kathua . DDC asked the Forest Department to complete the remaining work and construction of footpath around the pond.
He said that Kathua is city of traditional ponds and administration is trying its best to renovate most of ponds as per resources. He added that the renovation of Kalibari traditional pond is also under progress and a project of Rs 1.60 crore is implemented for all round development of pond in modern way. While talking about the revival and development of old ponds at Shaheedi Chowk, Kathua and near Boys Hostel , he said the other ponds also will be taken in hands as per resources.
He was accompanied by ADC, Jatinder Misra and DFO Kathua.
