DDC chairs Environmental Clearance Committee meet

KISHTWAR, Oct 29: District Development Commissioner Kishtwar, Angrez Singh Rana chaired Environmental Clearance Committee meeting for 390 MW Kirthai-I Hydroelectric Project at Gulabgarh Padder.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer JKPDC, SDM Padder, representatives of Pollution Control Board, Tehsildar Atholi, BDO Atholi, sectoral officers and a large number of public from Gulabgarh, Ligri, Atholi, Kejai, Kirthai, Kudnal and Sohal.
The public was informed about the importance of the meeting and the various key component of the project were read out before the public. It was informed that a 165 meter high concrete gravity dam will be constructed over river Chenab near Gulabgarh and requires a total of 321 hectares of state, private and reserved first land of which the apportionment of private land is only 48 hectare in Tehsil Padder. On completion of the project a total of 390 MW power will be generated and about 1200 persons would get the jobs during the execution of the project.
Chief Engineer JKPDC assured that during the execution of the project the impact on the air, noise and water pollution will be taken care of. Consultant of the project read out the various components of the projected environment management plan for Karthai-I project.
Number of speakers spoke on the occasion and demanded that a reasonable rate for compensation of land be provided to the land owners, employment be provided to the local youth, free electricity should be provided in the area after the completion of the project and relief and rehabilitation plan be kept at par with Kishanganga project.
DDC while replying to the queries assured that the area development plan and CSR would exclusively be used for the development of the Padder and asked the JKPDC authorities to impart skill training to the youth of the Padder so that at the time of the execution the local youth may get the jobs.
