DDC asks Sarpanchs to monitor development works

SAMBA  May 7: District Development Commissioner, R K Varma today asked the Sarpanchs to monitor the developmental works and the functioning of Government Departments at the Panchayat Halqa level.
Interacting with the Sarpanchs of Vijaypur and Purmandal Block at Block Headquarter Vijaypur and Purmandal in order to assess the genuine problems being faced in rural and border areas of the district so that these could be addressed to the extent possible while formulating current year’s District Plan and Action Plan under Border Area Development Programme (BADP), Mr Varma asked the Sarpanchs to monitor the developmental works and functioning of Government institutions at Panchayat Halqa Level. He assured them that the problems projected by them will be looked into and all efforts will be make to PRIs as vibrant institution.
The Sarpanchs brought to the notice of District Development Commissioner the problems of road connectivity, availability of ration, updating of BPL lists, encroachment of community lands in Panchayat Halqas etc. They also requested that the PRIs should be fully empowered and involved in the process of planning, monitoring of development works in their Panchayat Halqas as mandated under law and the Halqua level officers of various departments should attend monthly meeting conducted at the Panchayat Halqa level.
The meeting among others was attended by Chief Planning Officer-Sant Ram, Assistant Commissioner Development Mohd Farooq Bhat, Tehsildar Samba, BDO Vijaypur and BDO Purmandal.
