DDC adopts Ghordi village

UDHAMPUR, June 7: District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, has adopted Ghordi village for providing universal access to civic amenities, planned development, sanitation and other services as part of initiative of district administration for adoption of villages for guided development and efficient resource utilisation. A group of local youth associated with Vivekananda Foundation has been mobilised for community participation.
The DDC informed that every household will be provided separate toilet facility which is available with only 20 percent families at present; the plan will include upgradation of village infrastructure, improvement in organic farming, adult education, rural infrastructure development, sports promotion, cultural centre, crafts centre, modern education, upgradation of roads, water and power supply, skill development, watershed management, development of ponds, scientific animal husbandry, strip plantation, e-Governance services , grievance redressal cell and SHGs for women will be created. The plan has been finalised for completion within a period of 15 months.
Volunteers of Shrimat Vivekananda Foundation along with members of Ghordi Panchayat made a detailed presentation before the DDC regarding present status of civic amenities, development and infrastructure in village. They assured mass public participation in the initiative and welcomed the concept of village adoption which will be replicated in entire district in a planned and phased manner for more than 25 villages in first year. A detailed presentation was made by volunteers of SVF.
Emphasising on strengthening village as a backbone of socio-economic development and improvement of livelihood at doorsteps, the DDC Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary directed departments of Rural Development, Youth Services & Sports, DRDA, Panchayats, Revenue, Statistics & Evaluation and PWD among others to immediately carry a baseline survey which will be a guide for a participatory development on various fronts. Village Development Committee will serve as inter-departmental coordination platform. Banks, Organisations, Departments and NGOs are being associated for the programme.
Asstt Commissioner Development, Distt Sports Officer, Tehsildar, Asstt Director P&S, officers from various departments and NGOs participated in the introductory meeting for village adoption programme.
