DCOs inspect retail outlets, seize expired drugs worth over Rs 1 lakh

SAMBA, June 12: A team of Drug Control Officers (DCOs) under the direct supervision of Assistant Drugs Controller, Samba, Renuka Raina carried out surprise supervisory checks of Retail Sale Outlets situated in Ramgarh tehsil.
During the drive, stocks of drugs valuing more than Rs one lakh were confiscated on spot as that were comprising of banned fixed dose combinations and date expired, and were found being stocked in contravention to the provisions of the Act.
Statutory Drug samples of ten formulations viz Antibiotics, PPI, Steroid, NSAIDs etc were drawn to check the identity, strength and purity of these drugs. These samples have been referred to State Drug Testing Laboratories for framing legal opinion to ascertain their quality parameters.
Moreover, notices were served upon six firms viz M/s Lakshita Medicos, Rarian; M/s Lakshmi Medicos, Arazi; M/s Radhika Medicos, Rara, Ramgarh, M/s Mahamritunjay Medical Hall, Ramgarh; M/s Samnotra Medical Hall, Ramgarh and M/s Abhishek Medical Hall, Ramgarh for committing breaches of the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 & rules there-under.
It was impressed upon the trade fraternity to follow good trade practices in the larger patient interest and ensure proper storage conditions for stocking of drugs, failing which action as contemplated under relevant provisions shall be initiated against the defaulters.
