DCC submits 10 points proposal to UT Consultative Committee

LEH, Oct 13: District Congress Committee (DCC) Leh submitted a ten point proposal to UT Consultative Committee led by Hill Council Chairman Gyal P Wangyal.
Addressing a press conference, DCC President Tsering Namgyal flanked by senior Congress leader Ex-MLA Tsering Samphel and Councillor Gurmet Dorjay said that both District of Leh and Kargil be provided constitutional protection under sixth schedule of Indian Constitution to fulfill economic, education and linguistic aspiration and preservation of land-rights, socio-cultural and ethnic identity of the Tribal people of Ladakh.
DCC also proposed to declare Ladakh as Tribal areas under paragraph 20 of 6th schedule of the Indian constitution.
“Congress also proposed to empower Hill Council by giving powers to make its own law. Congress in their draft proposal suggested increase in the number of Hill Council seat from existing 26 to 40 seats and 30 per cent Executive Councillor seat. DCC further suggested for reservation to Ladakhi students in National premier Engineering and Medical Colleges”, Namgyal informed.
He said that DCC Leh demanded that technical institution may be open in UT Ladakh, adding that DCC is against the investment in Tourism industry by large chain of hotels, State Tourism Development Corporations, multinational transport operators and their players.
