Leh, May 12: In connection with the celebration of Singhey Khababs Sindhu Festival, the Deputy Commissioner, Leh Saugat Biswas convened the first preparatory meeting of concerned departments today. He informed that the important annual three-day festival will commence from June 12.
Biswas informed the participants that the festival will be celebrated with full fervour this year and will showcase the unique cultural heritage of the region in a big way. Special emphasis will be given to involve the local population of Leh district in the festival this year in addition to the tourists coming from outside the district.
In addition to the local cultural events of Ladakh we will bring in performers from outside J&K to expose the locals to the cultures of other States, he added. Various committees comprised of senior functionaries of the district were formed during the meeting for handling various activities like reception, cultural programme, handloom / handicraft exhibition, and the customary polo match.
He directed the Tourism Department to submit a detailed proposal of the programme with the tentative budget for the various activities up to May 15. The venue for the inauguration will be the Sindhu ghat and the programs on the next two days will be organised in the open air amphitheatre at the new cricket stadium opposite the Council Secretariat.
SSP Leh, Dr. Sunil Gupta, ADC. Leh, Rakesh Badyal, HoDs of the concerned departments and Presidents of the Hotel Association were also present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, British High Commissioner Sir James Bevan on his visit to Leh made a courtesy call on the District Magistrate Leh, Saugat Biswas in his office.
He had a meeting with the District Magistrate during which they discussed the place and its vibrant culture.
