KATHUA, Jan 4: District administration has established 10 relief camps at Haria Chak, Hiranagar, Nagial, Plat, Chak Kanha, Banyari, Chadwal, Sherpur, Nagri and Sallan where 1841 migrants belonging to 491 families have been provided safe accommodation and basic amenities.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary reviewed basic amenities at all the relief camps and sought feedback from migrants. He was accompanied by SDM Hiranagar Sohan Lal, ACD, X-En PWD, X-En PHE, X-En Mechanical, X-En PDD, X-En REW, CHO, CMO, DD Employment, X-En PMGSY, X-En RTIC, Collector RTIC, Tehsildar Marheen, Tehsildar Hiranagar, BDOs and other senior officers of all departments. He also visited forward areas along International Border to interact with residents.
Around 2500 people have migrated from 11 villages after shelling across International Border; out of which 1800 are in relief camps. Administration has provided bedding, Tarpaulin, blankets, ration, lentils, firewood, drinking water and other basic amenities at these relief camps. Camp commanders and camp officers have been appointed for overseeing arrangements and provision of relief. Committees of camp inhabitants have also been constituted for coordination. Rs 5000 each were given to the families of 5 persons injured during firing yesterday.
Emergency response center (01922274259) was established by district administration at PWD Guest House Hiranagar where representatives of various departments have been deputed for immediate response. Collector RTIC is incharge of control room. Stocks have been made available in office premises of SDM Hiranagar for relief to migrants.
Earlier, the DC convened a review meeting of officers from all departments including essential services and camp officers to review the status of relief measures and requirements of various camps. He instructed the officials for immediate response to the requirements at camps and provide all facilities. He also inspected various relief camps.
