KATRA, Apr 20: Observing that Katra-the base camp of revered Mata Vaishno Devi Pilgrimage is witnessing rapid inflow of more than one crore devotees annually, and there is need of good road network, Deputy Commissioner Reasi-Sushma Chauhan today urged for creating better facilities and basic infrastructure in the town and laid special emphasis on Domail-Katra road.
In a meeting of officials at Katra, Chauhan reviewed the status of up gradation of roads from Railway Station Katra to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Domail-Katra and Katra-Tikkri road.
It was informed that the concerning authorities are monitoring the progress of the projects to ensure that they are completed without any further delay. It was decided that a coordination committee of Revenue, PWD and BRO officials will actively settle all pending issues and facilitate the construction of all link roads connecting Katra with Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, payment of compensation and removal of encroachments, public comfort and updating of revenue records.
Chauhan accompanied by officials from Public Works Departments inspected the Katra -Domail road which is under repairs. She passed direction to the officials to ensure time bound completion of Katra- Domail road.
Domel-Katra section involving a length of 14.97 kilometers has been taken over by the R&B Department from Border Roads Organization for its upkeep and maintenance. DC Reasi was informed that tenders for its improvement and up gradation were floated in two parts for which work is in full swing and will be completed in the next two months.
Later, DC reviewed the performance of Katra Development Authority (KDA) and directed for creation of better civic amenities.
