LEH, Dec 8: A review meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Leh, Sachin Kumar Vaishya regarding implementation of “Jal Jeevan Mission” (JJM) a flagship programme of Central Government to provide potable water to rural homes through functional household tap connection by 2024.
At the outset, the SE PWD Leh presented the progress report of the work done under Jal Jeevan Mission. Stressing on the need for proper planning to achieve the goal of the mission within the time frame, the DC directed all the concerned officers for early completion of DPRs and allotment of works.
He further stated that Jal Jeevan Mission is a flagship program to provide Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to every rural household of the country by 2024. The mission aims to improve the lives of rural people by providing safe drinking water to every rural home through household tap connections.
Focus was given on the proper planning at village level by dovetailing all available resources by convergence with MGNREGA. It was stressed to involve local village community/Gram Panchayats for planning, implementation, management, operation and maintenance of water supply systems in villages to ensure long-term sustainability with drinking water security. It was urged to start an IEC campaign along with community mobilization in all villages.
Issues related Implementing Supporting Agency (ISA), Field Test Kits, third party monitoring and accreditation were also discussed in detail. Regarding the shortage of JEs in PHE Department, the DC further directed the SE PHE to submit all the list of JEs deployed in the district for rationalization
Chief Planning Officer Leh, Tsewang Gyalson, DSE PWD, Executive Engineers PHE, AEEs, JEs and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
