*Stresses on eviction of encroachments

KATHUA, Aug 26: To review the functioning of the Revenue Department, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Raghav Langer chaired a meeting of officers, here today.
Threadbare discussions were held on status of jamabandies, attestation of mutations, inspection of revenue records, expunging entries of illegal occupants in respect of Kahcharai land, state and common land, removal of encroachments, inspection of fard- intakhab register, submission of recovery statements, relief cases, besides progress on latha and maintenance of various registers at patwar level.
The Deputy Commissioner directed revenue officers to prioritize the work of jamabandies strictly in conformity with the instructions.
He stressed on keeping close check on encroachments in areas under their respective jurisdiction and conversion of agriculture land to non-agricultural purposes. He further called for strengthening the anti encroachment mechanism to retrieve encroached state, common and kahchrai land
Similarly emphasis was laid on conserving water bodies besides restricting their conversion to other use. Status of PSGA, digitisation of revenue records, land acquisition cases and furnishing of awards for fixation of rates, revenue papers pertaining to major development projects were also discussed in detail.
The DC also reviewed the status of relief cases in the district along with their disposal rate and exhorted upon the officers to ensure timely disposal of applications pertaining to relief under mentioned categories. He also directed Tehsildars to speed up the process of land acquisition and instructed regular follow ups on sub judice matters so that bottle necks if any can be dealt with.
The DC also issued instructions to the officers to update their revenue record village register besides strict instructions were given to achieve set targets. He called for conducting frequent citizen meetings in their respective jurisdiction to get appropriate feedback regarding various problems being faced by the people.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner convened a meeting to review the working of Lambardars and Chowkidars of border area of the district, here today.
Emphasizing the need to revive and strengthen the institution of Lambardars and Chowikdars, the DC said that Lambardar and Chowkidars are the eyes and ears of the District Administration. Beside, their role was very crucial in providing timely information to District Administration pertaining to sensitive region like border belt.
Lambardars and chowkidars also raised several issues concerning their Identity Cards and Uniform. Beside they informed the DC that they were not called in Virasat Intakal camps and during Character Verification of the villagers. Issue of Addition and Deletion of Ration Cards was also discussed threadbare.
