Jammu, Apr 22: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, conferred the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration for the year 2013-14 upon Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary. The awards were presented on the occasion of Civil Services Day at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
The Country’s highest civil services award carrying a cash prize of Rs 5 lakhs, Citation, Scroll and a Gold Medal was presented to 10 Civil Servants / Initiatives across the country. While Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary (J&K), Dr Vikrant Pandey (Gujarat) and Kundan Kumar (Bihar), all three IAS officers, received the award in individual category, 2 awards were presented in team category and rest 5 for organisations category.  Meanwhile 7 officers / initiatives were presented awards for year 2012-12 as the Civil Services Day celebrations could not be held last year due to election process.
Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary earlier received the National Award for best performance in conduct of Lok Sabha Elections and the National e-Governance Award 2014.
The Prime Minister felicitated the awardees and congratulated them for innovative and outstanding performance in the various fields especially social sector across the country. He asked for replication of these practices in all the states on a larger scale.
Union Ministers, Governors, Cabinet Secretary, Secretaries to Government of India and senior officers of Central and State Governments attended the programme.
