KATHUA, Feb 26: Deputy Commissioner, O.P Bhagat today inaugurated District Level Centre for Women (Mahila Shakti Kendra) established under a centrally sponsored scheme.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Atul Gupta; District Programme Officer Ritu Mahajan; Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh; District Social Welfare Officer Abdul Raheem; Chief Medical Officer, Ashok Choudhary; District Information Officer, Parshotam Dass Sharma; District Education Planning Officer, Aruna Sharma and officials from Social Welfare and ICDS Department were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
The Government of India has launched Mahila Shakti Kendra Scheme to provide one stop convergent support services for empowering rural women with opportunities for skill development, employment, digital literacy, health and nutrition.
The District Level Centre for Women will be manned by one Women Welfare Officer and two district coordinators, who will collate information on Government programmes, schemes and services meant for women empowerment (including BBBP, One Stop Centre, Women Helpline, Mahila Police Volunteers, Swadhar, Ujjawala etc) and will serve as a link between village/block and district level. This centre will also give foothold for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme.
In his address, the Deputy Commissioner stated that this centre will serve as a bridge among the rural women and various Government departments at village, block and district level and will help them to avail the benefits of various Government scheme and programmes. This centre will act as a complaint re-addressal platform for rural women.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua while interacting with the newly appointed staff of District Level Centre for Women advised them to work whole heartedly for the uplift of poor and downtrodden women of rural areas.
