JAMMU, Aug 7: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jammu, Simrandeep Singh and Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Saujanya Sharma, along with a team of officers and officials visited rain hit areas of Jammu within municipal limits and took stock of the damages.
The team comprising of Joint Commissioner (W), Tushar Chand, Executive Engineers, Health Officer, Chief Transport Officer and other filed staff of the Corporation visited the areas of Nanak Nagar, Gangyal, Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Jewel, Durga Nagar, etc.
During the tour DC Jammu and JMC Commissioner met with various sections of the people who were badly affected due to heavy rain. They also visited nallahs of Shastri Nagar and Nanak Nagar where they found that nallahs were filled with garbage material/building material/polythene bags and choked due to which water finding no catchment drains got accumulated into the residential colonies and roads.
The concerned Officer was directed on spot by the Municipal Commissioner to look into the matter and immediately deploy both men and machinery for clearance of affected nallahs for the smooth flow of rain water and for redressal of grievances of the local people.
Later, Chief Transport Officer along with field staff visited the nallah at Gangyal and observed that nallah was diverted by one local inhabitant. On the direction of DC Jammu, the officer de-silted the piece of land on which nallah was diverted for free flow and actual alignment of nallah. Besides, encroachment along the nallah by local inhabitants by raising RCC walls was also removed on the spot.
Further, JMC Commissioner deployed 8 to 10 excavators and tippers in these areas for immediate clearance and de-silting of nallahs and directed the concerned to arrange the additional men and machinery if required so that work may not suffer.
