DC Baramulla kick-starts Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight at PHC Sheeri

BARAMULLA, June 6: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar today kick-started Intensive Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) campaign at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Sheeri during the programme organized by District Health Society Baramulla.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Syed Sehrish thoroughly explained the cause of diarrhoea among the children. She also explained about the precautionary measures and interventions and preparation of ORS at home and its uses.
Elaborating further, the DC said that the ultimate aim of Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight 2023 is to achieve zero child deaths due to childhood diarrhoea. She complimented ASHA’s and AWW for their vibrant role for achieving remarkable role in decreasing MMR and IMR.
Despite tremendous efforts by the health department to decrease the child mortality rate, diseases related to diarrhoea continue to be a major cause of death in children under the age of five, Dr Sehrish remarked. She asserted that the District Administration is committed to improve the health care services for the welfare of the general public.
She further stressed on more awareness campaigns so that the rate of child mortality due to diarrhoea can be brought down to the minimum level.
Earlier, Block Medical Officer Block Sheeri, Dr Naseer delivered a keynote address about the orientation programme and said that childhood diarrhoea is among the major killers of 0-5 years old children in India and most of the victims are children from poor socio-economic families.
The District Health Society Baramulla is organizing the IDCF from 6th June to 17th June 2023.
Meanwhile, similar kinds of activities were held in all Medical Blocks of the district as a part of observing IDCF, wherein different activities were carried out during the programme and included hand washing demonstration in schools, outreach areas and distribution of ORS and Zinc Tablets.
Later, Dr Sehrish also inaugurated a Mega Camp ‘Village Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day’. The camp promises to be an effective platform for providing first contact Primary Health care
The camp was organised by District Health Society Baramulla in collaboration with Piramil Foundation at Block Head Quarter Sheeri under Aspirational District Programme.
