SRINAGAR, July 30: In order to assess the ground situation in the aftermath of the damages caused by flash floods in Aloosa village of Bandipora, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad visited Aloosa and adjoining villages along with officers of R&B, Irrigation and Flood Control besides DDC members.
During his visit, Dr Owais assessed the damaged caused to property and agriculture land besides inspecting the restoration works in Chechinar, Ketsun, Halmatpora and Binlipora. He directed the officers to deploy more machinery if required to restore the flow of water in the stream. Dr Owais stressed on utilization of funds by Panchayat Raj Institutions for flood restoration works including strengthening of embankments.
Dr Owais interacted with the people in these habitations who apprised the Deputy Commissioner about problems being faced by them. Dr Owais assured them that the district administration will take every possible measure to ensure their grievances are redressed. The DC appealed the people of Bandipora to stay cautious and not to venture out near water bodies in view of the sporadic rains in the district.
He said the district administration is fully prepared to deal with any situation and all the ground level teams of SDRF, Police, Revenue and Irrigation ad Flood Control besides volunteers are continuously monitoring the situation. He said the district administration is regularly reviewing the flood mitigation arrangements and all requisite arrangements are in place.
The DC said a district level Control Room is also functional round the clock and the numbers have already been notified so that people can contact on the numbers in case of any emergency. Dr Owais directed the officers to remain alert during this phase of rainy weather and promptly respond to public grievances and distress calls.
