DC alerts engineers on rising water level in nallas

LEH, July 9: In view of rising temperature and eventuality of overflow of water in nallas, the Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Avny Lavasa took an emergency meeting today with the officers and engineers of concerned department and ordered for taking certain preventive measures.
She framed officers’ committee and instructed them to immediately inspect Leh main nalla right from Gangles to Skara and identify vulnerable points and ensure that the water course should not get blocked at any cost. Lavasa directed the PWD to initiate de-silting of nalla according to the need and also urged to keep the JCBs and gunny bags standby to meet any eventuality. DC further directed to the engineers to keep close eye on other vulnerable nallas so that timely precautionary action can be taken.
Keeping in mind shortage of regular manpower with SDRF, DC instructed them to alert all those personnel who were trained through SDRF for disaster management work. She also took stock of availability of equipments with SDRF.
The issue of blocking water course at Tokley Zampa by the Air Force authority which has resulted overflow of water on National Highway last evening was also raised in the meeting. It was decided to take up the issue with Air Force to install a flood-gate there so that such problem may not occur again.
The Addl District Development Commissioner, Leh, Moses Kunzang, Addl Deputy Commissioner, Leh Sachin Kumar, Addl SP Leh, Suresh Chib, Tehsildar, Leh, Sonam Gyurmet, Xens of various wings of PWD, Executive Officer, Municipal Committee and incharge SDRF were present in the meeting.
Keeping in view the prevailing situation, the district administration Leh has appealed to the general people to extend fullest cooperation by abstaining from throwing garbage, mainly the old clothing, into the nallas. In the event of any eventuality at any place, people were informed to contact at telephone number 258880 Police Control Room for help and assistance.
Meanwhile, Avny Lavasa today disbursed cheques amounting to Rs 81.00 lakh among ten next of kin of those who had died in a snow avalanche at Khardongla pass in December 2018. This compensation money has been paid through Labour Welfare Department under Employees Compensation Act 1923.
The Assistant Labour Commissioner, Ghulam Nabi Tak was present on the occasion.
