DB’s directive to Govt on slaughtering, sale of bovines

JAMMU, Sept 23: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Parimoksh Seth highlighting the grave issue of slaughtering and sale of bovine animals, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today granted four weeks time to the State to comply with the directions.
After hearing Advocate Ankesh Chandel for the PIL whereas Senior AAG Gagan Basotra for the State, DB granted four weeks time to the State to comply with the order dated August 4, 2014 whereby Divisional Commissioners were directed to submit a report about the steps that have been taken to prevent either slaughtering or sale of such slaughtered animals in various areas falling under their jurisdiction.
The Division Bench had further directed Divisional Commissioners to obtain inputs from Inspector Generals of Police to find out as to whether the activities of slaughtering of bovine animals and their sale is being undertaken on commercial level and if so, what steps have been taken by them with a view to bring the guilty to book.
