DB stays construction on Tawi bed

JAMMU, Sept 15: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today imposed ban on construction on river Tawi bed from Nagrota up to Phalain Mandal.
The order was passed in a Public Interest Litigation filed by Advocate Deewakar Sharma and Raman Sharma as founder member of Save My Tawi Campaign.
After hearing petitioner in person whereas Senior AAG Gagan Basotra for the State, DB granted six weeks time for filing status report after it was stated that due to unprecedented floods in Kashmir valley, the status report could not be filed.
“In the meanwhile, no transaction in the form of transfer, mortgage etc, shall take place in respect of river Tawi”, the DB said and directed all the departments to ensure that no encroachment shall take place on the land and stayed the further construction from Nagrota to Phalain Mandal.
