DB seeks updated status of 2 upcoming modern slaughter houses

JAMMU, Mar 6: In the much publicized PIL seeking closure of unregulated/unregistered /unlicensed slaughter houses/meat shops in the State, Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan has directed Jammu Municipal Corporation to file a latest status report regarding the completion of the two slaughter houses in Jammu city before the next date of hearing.
After hearing Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed with Advocates Rahul Raina, Supriya Chouhan and Mohd Zulkarnain Chowdhary appearing for the petitioner whereas Senior AAG S S Nanda appearing for the State Government, Advocate Sachin Gupta for JMC, DB observed, “in the earlier status reports the Jammu Municipal Corporation had informed that both the slaughter houses in Jammu on modern lines would be completed by 31st March, 2019 as such updated status has to be filed”.
Later, Advocate S S Ahmed informed the Division Bench that Director Urban Local Bodies Jammu has filed a status report wherein he has submitted that pursuant to the directions of the Division Bench the closure notices for 10 illegal/unlicensed slaughter houses in Jammu Province have been forwarded to the concerned Executive Officers of the Municipal Bodies.
“Pursuant to the directions passed by the Division Bench the Senior AAG S S Nanda has filed the status reports on behalf of Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation and also Director Urban Local Bodies Kashmir indicating the status of slaughter houses in Srinagar City and other parts of Kashmir Valley”, Advocate Ahmed further said.
Accordingly, DB directed the Registry to place the status reports on record so that the same may be considered on the next date.
