DB seeks report on development of river front

JAMMU, Feb 1: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) highlighting the havoc created by the flash floods in Nikki Tawi area, Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Sindhu Sharma has directed the Jammu Development Authority to apprise the court regarding the construction of river front.
After hearing Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed for the PIL, the DB observed, “in this matter, a foreign agency was hired to study the morphology of the river Tawi at Jammu. A report of the agency was to be brought on record after the study is completed”, adding “the Executive Engineer, Flood Control, Division Jammu, has filed a status report dated 26.02.2020 which reveals that the study has not been completed and, as such, the report could not be submitted”.
Advocate K D S Kotwal, appearing for the Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) submitted that on account of Covid-19 restrictions on international travel probably the team could not visit to study the morphology of the river and that he will update the court as to the time period within which the report shall be filed.
The DB allowed the prayer and granted one month time to update the court on the issue. The DB directed Advocate Adarsh Sharma, appearing for the Jammu Development Authority, to update the court regarding the construction of the river front.
