JAMMU, Mar 23: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Viklang Chattra Trust seeking better care of old age homes, Division Bench of the State High Court comprising Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Sindhu Sharma has sought details regarding the benefits being given under various schemes of the Social Welfare Department.
After hearing Advocate Veenu Gupta for the PIL, the DB observed, “counsel appearing for the petitioner has pointed out that beneficiaries registered under various schemes of the Social Welfare Department are not being given benefits because of paucity of funds”.
“On the other hand Deputy AG seeks some time to respond to the report filed by Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority and give details as to whether all the beneficiaries who have submitted applications for grant of benefits and those who have already registered are being given benefits under those schemes or not and whether paucity of funds is acting as hindrance with the department”, the DB further observed.
Accordingly, DB directed the State that the needful shall be done within two weeks.
