DB issues notice to State on handicap pension

JAMMU, Sept 29: Treating as Public Interest Litigation a letter written by Chairman Disable Welfare Association regarding enhancement of their pension, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur today issued notice to the State and directed Advocate General to file response within four weeks.
In the letter, it has been mentioned that pension of handicapped persons of J&K is very low as compared to other states. In Uttrakhand, the pension is Rs 800 while as in Haryana the same is Rs 1000. “During 2nd last Assembly session, it was decided that pension shall be enhanced within six months but no action has been taken till date despite the fact that prices of daily use items and other things are increasing”, the letter said, adding “it is very difficult for the disabled persons to manage their daily life”.
