PIL seeking protection of ancient temples in J&K

JAMMU, Dec 13: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking protection of ancient Hindu temples in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, a Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice N Kotiswar Singh and Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi has granted four weeks time to Union of India and UT of Jammu & Kashmir for filing objections.
The petitioner by way of representations and RTI applications asked the authorities to provide information about the temples which were destroyed or damaged due to militancy. The respondents gave the details of all the temples which were damaged, destroyed, partially damaged and in good condition.
On the basis of this information, the petitioner filed PIL seeking direction to the respondents to take appropriate recourse to protect, rebuild, renovate the ancient temples of the UT of J&K and retrieve the land of the temples encroached by the Mafia and other property dealers.
