JAMMU, Mar 28: Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar today disposed of a letter turned Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking in-depth investigation in the infamous sexual exploitation of mentally challenged girls with various directions.
After hearing Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed for the PIL filed by visually impaired practicing lawyer Suraj Singh whereas Senior Additional Advocate General Gagan Basotra for the State, DB directed the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu to review his order dated September 9, 2013 regarding taking over of the management of the Rotary Inner Wheel, Channi Rama after a period of six months.
“If he finds that the management committee of Rotary Inner Wheel is able to manage the affairs effectively and lawfully then this order shall be reviewed. If it is otherwise then the Deputy Commissioner may maintain the order”, the DB said, adding “the rape victims may make a representation to the Social Welfare Department for grant of compensation in accordance with law within a period of two weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order”.
“If such a representation is made the same shall be decided by the respondents expeditiously preferably within a period of three months from the date of receipt of such representation”, the DB said.
