JAMMU, May 6: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Ashiq Hussain and others regarding issuance of job cards to Government employees, minor students and dead persons under MNREGA scheme, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Hasnain Massodi and Justice Janak Raj Kotwal today directed the State Vigilance Organization to make all efforts for concluding investigation before June 8.
As per the MNREGA scheme, only adult members are guaranteed 100 days manual work to check unemployment in rural areas. However, taking undue advantage of their positions, the official respondents made gross abuse of the process of law and issued job cards to those, who were not eligible.
After hearing Advocate SK Puri appearing for the PIL, DB observed, “case FIR No.16-VOJ of 2013 stands registered more than two years back at Police Station VOJ, under Section 5(1) read with Section 5(2) PC Act, 2006 and 120-B, 420, 467, 468 and 471 RPC. The investigation normally ought to have been concluded by now”.
Accordingly, DB directed the investigating officer to proceed with the investigation with due dispatch and make all efforts to conclude it by next date of hearing i.e. June 8, 2015.
