JAMMU, Mar 12: Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan, in a suo-moto Public Interest Litigation, has sought to know the measures being taken to preserve and protect the glaciers including the Khardungla glacier in the Ladakh region.
When the PIL came-up for hearing, Advocate General DC Raina submitted that he was not satisfied with the instructions which have been received and prayed for time to file a report. Accordingly, DB directed that the same shall be positively filed within four weeks from today.
DB further directed respondents to place before this court the planning exercise which has been undertaken to ensure that the construction activities in Ladakh don’t not cause any damage to the ecology especially in the context of pollution, water, garbage and sewage.
DB further directed State to deal with the issue relating to the tremendous pressure on the fragile ecology of the region especially with the advent of the tourist season.
