DB directs Rs 2 lakh compensation

JAMMU, July 28: Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasnathakumar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey today directed Board of School Education (BOSE) to pay Rs 2 lakh compensation along with 9 % interest to the petitioner, who had attempted suicide after her examination was cancelled allegedly on the allegation of unfair means which later found to be untrue even by the appellants themselves.
The direction was passed in the appeal filed by the Chairman and the Secretary of the Board of School Education challenging the order of the Single Judge.
“The grave mistake on the part of appellants resulted into unnecessary harassment to the respondent and her father and due to the depression the respondent tried to commit suicide and at the timely intervention of family members, the life of the respondent was  saved”, the DB observed, adding “due to the willful negligent act of the appellant the respondent was put to mental agony and loss of one precious academic year”.
