DB directive to State in PIL on earthquakes

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 23: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Kirpal Chand seeking direction to State for constitution of a committee to review preparedness to tackle earthquakes, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice BS Walia has granted three weeks time to the State for filing response.
The DB has also made it clear that in case the response was not filed by the respondents the court will be constrained to pass appropriate orders against them.
In the PIL, it has been submitted that preparedness of the State to tackle earthquakes was required to be reviewed in the light of the fact that J&K falls in Zone-IV and Zone-V. The Kashmir valley falls more or less in Zone-V and Ladakh and Jammu fall in Zone-IV.
