Day temp plummets as rains lash Valley

Srinagar, May 24: Day temperature in summer capital plunged by nearly 10 notches as intermittent rainfall lashed Kashmir valley today.
A Meteorological official said that the intermittent rainfall started last night and continued throughout the day across Valley. He said day temperature across the Valley saw sharp decline due to the rains and increased chill. The renewed chill in the region forced residents to wear warm garments while the tourists were also seen buying warm clothes including jackets, sweaters and caps.
The MeT official said that there is prediction of scattered and isolated rainfall in summer capital Srinagar on Wednesday and Thursday respectively while the weather is expected to remain dry from Friday this week for three days.
The official said the day temperature in Srinagar was recorded 15.7 degree Celsius against the previous 24.9 degree Celsius, nearly 10 notches below the normal temperature. He said the minimum temperature was recorded 12.8 degree Celsius. The other parts of the Valley also recorded decline in the temperature.
Qazigund recorded 15.9 degree Celsius maximum temperature while minimum temperature settled at 12.3 degree Celsius. Pahalgam recorded 13.1 degree Celsius day temperature and night temperature settled at 9.8 degree Celsius.
The MeT official said maximum temperature in Gulmarg was recorded 8.0 degree Celsius while the night temperature settled at 5.4 degree Celsius. Kokernag in South Kashmir recorded 15.2 degree Celsius maximum temperature and 11.4 degree Celsius minimum temperature. The day temperature in Kupwara settled at 16.1 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature remained 12.3 degree Celsius.
Leh, which is also called cold desert, recorded a 24.2 degree Celsius maximum temperature and the night temperature settled at 12.4 degree Celsius while the neighbouring Kargil recorded 23.5 degree Celsius maximum temperature and the night temperature was recorded 7.4 degree Celsius.
