Dance contest on Day-5 of Navratra Festival

JAMMU, Oct 18: On 5th Day of the ongoing Navratra Festival at Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple, the Vice Chancellor of Central University, Jammu Prof Ashok Aima called for all out efforts for holistic development of personality of students with special focus on art and culture to safeguard our rich religious and cultural heritage and assured full support from the Central University in any such endeavors if taken in this regard.
Prof Aima was speaking at sparkling Dance Contest on religious themes, organized by Shri Lakshmi Narayan Temple Management Trust, Gandhi Nagar, as part of the Navratra Festival in the Temple premises to celebrate Navratras with full religious fervor.
In the Contest, Kumari Aananya Sharma bagged the first prize while Kumari Sana Mahajan and Kumari Richa Dutta won second and third prize respectively. A consolation prize was awarded to Master Bignesh Blowria. In all, over 18 youth participated in the competition and presented their appreciable talent.
The Vice Chancellor said that it was also the social responsibility of the Universities to channelize the energy of the youth towards culture and heritage in such productive manner so that they could guarantee transition of our proud cultural heritage and rich traditions to next generation.
Earlier, the 5th Navratra Function opened with the lighting of the traditional lamp amidst recitation of shaloks by the chief guest, his wife and other dignitaries. It was followed by Sarasvati Vandna and recitation of Bhajan by Paviter and Punya.
The president of the Trust, Th Gulchain Singh Charak honoured Prof Aima and his wife in traditional manner by offering Mata Ki Chuni and mementos of God Lakshmi Narayan.
The V C Central University Jammu distributed the awards among the winners of the contest besides certificates of participation and mementos to all the participants.
Earlier, a large number of devotees attended the Maha Aarti, a highlight of the Festival.
