SRINAGAR, Feb 17: Calling for advertising of the post of principal Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, the Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today said that this would open doors for many deserving and meritorious candidates.
The DAK president, Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan said the advertising of the post of principal GMC would bring transparency and openness in the selection process.
The senior medico said instead of facilitating the process of selection by experts, bureaucrats and politicians pick up their favorite who remains at their beck and call. “The whole selection process is kept hidden and secret which is unfair, non-transparent and thus manipulative,” he said.
As per MCI, to become principal, a person should posses a minimum of ten years teaching experience as Professor/Associate professor/Reader in a medical college/institution, out of which at least five years should be as a professor, said the DAK president.
“The opportunities of many aspirants are blocked as they are not even considered. The practice of favoritism has ruined GMC which is in a sorry state of affairs. There is lobbyism, infighting and indiscipline which have told upon the health of the premier institution,” he said, adding that there is no work culture because of unaccountability and patients bear the brunt.
“The hospitals are being run by trainees as the faculty most of the times are busy in their private clinics.  It seems that the hope and future of healthcare in Kashmir is lost to a conspiracy,” he added.
