JAMMU, Oct 20: The daily wagers and casual workers from PHE, PDD, Health, JMC, RDD and Agriculture and other departments held protest demonstration in support of their demands at Exhibition Ground near Press Club here today.
The PHE daily rated, ITI trained and CP workers’ besides those from PDD, Health, Tourism, JMC etc assembled near Press Club here in the morning and held strong protest demonstration. They pulled off their shirts and held protest in semi-naked condition. They were demanding their regularization and release of pending wages. They alleged that PDP-BJP Govt has failed to address the issues of the workers and denying their wages. The workers were raising loud slogans against the Govt and also in support of their demands.
Several trade union leaders addressed the gathering and criticized the State Govt for not addressing genuine issues of the working class. They alleged that Govt despite assurance failed to create separate Salary Head for the daily wagers. They have been denied their wages even for the last three years. These hapless workers are facing sheer exploitation at the hands of the senior officers and the Ministers concerned. They said that due to non-payment of their wages, their families were facing starvation. They demanded re-adjustment of ousted 6000 contractual teachers, adjustment of 467 SLRM (JMC) workers, framing of regularization policy and insurance policy for the workers.
While condemning the indifferent attitude of Ministers and MLAs from Jammu region, they said that public representatives from Jammu are busy in making money or accomplishing the tasks of their own interests while poor and hapless workers of this region have been left to suffer. They appealed the workers to remain united for their cause.
They said if their wages are not released by October 28, they will celebrate Diwali at the protest/ dharna site along with their families by bearing black badges. They further disclosed that a delegation of the workers is also going top Delhi to meet Union Ministers and narrate their issues before them.
Tanveer Hussain from PHE, Akhil Sharma from PDD, Rajan Sharma from Agriculture Department, Shallo Ram from Forest, Anurag from JMC, Sikander from Tourism and Kamla Sharma from Home Guards/ Police addressed the gathering.
