SRINAGAR, Mar 18: The Daily Wagers Union of Power Development Department (PDD) has lodged strong protest against the electrocution of a daily wager at Yaripora in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday evening.
Ghulam Nabi Sofi, a daily wager of PDD working at Electric Division, Bijbehara was electrocuted while carrying out repairs of a transmission line at Tengan-Yaripora of the Reshipora sub-division. A resident of Lassipora-Khrewan, Mir Bazar in Anantnag district, Ghulam Nabi suffered serious burn injuries in the incident and later on succumbed to his injuries.
A spokesman of Daily Wagers Union in a press release here today alleged that the higher authorities are responsible for the death of the daily wager since they did not order for the snapping of the power supply while the repairs were being carried out. The spokesman said that the daily wager remained hanging on the conductors for 15 minutes and still then the concerned feeder was not tripped off.
The spokesman said that many daily wagers, need based workers and casual labourers have died in many such incidents and still then the authorities are un-moved.
