JAMMU, May 5: A delegation from the Doordarshan Approved Drama Artists Association Jammu (DADAA), led by its President JS Babli, met with Padamshri SP Varma, Vice-President of Gandhi Global Family (GGF) and a noted social activist, to discuss the establishment of a dedicated Satellite Duggar Channel.
As per a statement, the meeting took place at Varma’s residence in Mohalla Afgan, Jammu.
It said the delegation included Vice-President Madan Rangila, Spokesperson Janak Khajuria, Dr Kamal Sharma, and Executive Member Harbans Sharma.
In the meeting, the DADAA members highlighted the association’s dedication to preserving the rich cultural heritage, art, and languages of Duggar land, emphasizing the welfare of the artist community.
The group provided details of their ongoing efforts since 2013, including correspondence with the Ministries of Home Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, Defence, and Prasar Bharati, advocating for a channel that caters specifically to the Duggar region.
Spokesperson Janak Khajuria pointed out that the demand for a Satellite Duggar Channel has broad support not only from residents within the region but also from the Dogra diaspora worldwide.
He stressed that such a channel would serve as a vital link for Non-Resident Dogras to their cultural roots.
The artists expressed their concerns about the neglect of the Dogra community’s rights, particularly the unmet demand for the channel, and questioned the delay in governmental action.
They urged for prompt measures to address this long-standing issue, emphasizing that it reflects the aspirations of the entire Dogra community, not just the artists.
SP Varma responded with assurance of full support for the cause, recognizing the widespread and significant nature of the demand.
He encouraged the delegation to engage directly with the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir to expedite the process and fulfill this critical cultural requirement.
