KATHUA, May 25: The residents of village Dabwal in block Barnoti wearing the black ribbon, carrying the placards in their hands and shouting slogans continued their protest for second consecutive day today demanding shifting of the wine shop from the village.
They were shouting slogans “Do not make the future of youth as druggist and J&K Govt Murdabad”. A large number of villagers including women sat on protest dharna in front of wine shop opened in village Dabwal and demanded its immediate closure. The protestors questioned that if the wine shop was allocated for village Ghatti and why it was opened in village Dabwal as it will spoil the atmosphere in the village. The protestors Usha Rani, Anju Bala, Geeta Devi, Krishna Kumari said that the wine shop is forcibly opened by the district administration and Excise and Taxation Department supported by police while violating the all norms and rules . Usha Rani alleged that the Sarpanch of village gave NOC for opening of wine shop without any consent of villagers after having a deal with wine shop dealer.
She alleged that instead to supporting the villagers, the Sarpanch got an FIR registered against the protesting villagers when they visited to his residence to highlight their grievances. The Sarpanch showed adamant attitude and abused the villagers and lodged report against them, she added.
She demanded the resignation of Sarpanch. She said “We cannot put the future of children in dark and put them into menace of drugs, . But the Government agencies are forcibly doing so and playing the role of goons”.
The residents are worried that drugs and liquor menace is fast spreading in their area and police is doing nothing . The women said that they will start the hunger strike in front of wine shop if it is not shifted to another place.
