CWA meets Div Com

JAMMU, May 15: Consumers’ Welfare Association (CWA) expressed deep concern and anguish over ever increasing woes of the consumers in a meeting with the Divisional Commissioner.
CWA pointed out that may it be price, quality or quantity of milk and milk products, vegetables and fruits, meat, food items, packed and unpacked eatables, cooked items sold on rehries in thousands, standard or non standard items of daily use in general stores, medicines and other healthcare facilities both private and Government and other Government services like electric supply, water supply, civic facilities to be provided by JMC the consumer is at the mercy of the sellers and services providers.
CWA stressed that consumer is again at the receiving end as far as supply of spurious drugs, adulterated and non standard medicines, private medical practitioner fee, pathological lab charges and services in nursing homes, unwarranted increase in tuition fee in private institutions, increasing transportation charges for school going children by unregistered private carriers.
Problems at the Railway Station Jammu including Rs 30 parking charges were also discussed.
Divisional Commissioner expressed his views that Health Officer JMC is fully authorized to check even within the Jammu Railway complex anything that goes against the State Government’s Laws.
He assured that concerned would be directed to gear up their efforts to effectively check the consumer related problems especially in view of the coming Shri Amarnath Yatra.
